Style Session: The Perfect Black Tank

Tank tops are such an integral part of my spring and summer wardrobe because they are the perfect foundation for any layering. You can rock a tank top by itself or you can add a chic blazer to dress it up, a playful cardigan for a trip to the park, and so much more. Finding the perfect tank top that is going to add so much to your spring and summer wardrobe is like finding the first bouquet of peonies of the season...a truly happy feeling! I was so excited to stumble upon this tank over the week because it was love at first sight. It's chic, effortless, and my closet's new best friend.

My favorite thing about this tank is how versatile it is. It's perfect with skinny jeans and sandals, like I wore it here...or it can be dressed up with heels or a blazer. It's simple enough to be the foundation of any outfit, but the layered detailing and simple criss cross back give it a little something extra that allows it to stand out on it's own. I know it's going to be perfect for summer lunching on patios, rooftop parties at night, and everything in between. That's the magic of a perfect closet staple...it can do so much for your wardrobe, increase the amount of looks you get from your closet for less, and find it's way into as many occasions as possible.

I'm sort of known for being the girl who doesn't own a lot of basics or classic staple pieces. Most of my closet is statement dress, statement dress, statement dress...mainly because that's who I am! I like an amazing statement dress and I love a look that really puts on a show. Who doesn't?! But I'm trying really hard to expand the number of staples I have in my closet so that I can increase the amount of looks I have without spending too much money. A simple tank like this black one is just so perfect because it will continue to be in style season after season. It's something that I hope I can look back five years from now and still find in my closet because I know it will continue to look good with so many things.

What are your thoughts on having closet basics? Do you have one that you couldn't live without?
