Style Session: Houndstooth Coat

When rocking a bold pattern, sometimes it's best to pair it with something a little more neutral. I wanted to layer this pop coat over something simple. This emerald green shirtdress with the pussy bow necktie was the perfect choice! It's from Forever21 and they don't sell it anymore, but I've linked some similar cuties below. I am a big sucker for emerald green in part because it's a great color to wear if you have red hair (even though mine is clearly not natural as evidenced by the crazy huge roots that are showing right now...glad I have a hair appointment this week!).

This time of the year, it's all tights tights tights with dresses. Don't get me wrong, I love a good pair of tights, but I do get sick of wearing the same thing all the time. A good alternative to tights on the days that aren't too incredibly cold are knee high socks. They help keep most of your legs warm and have an incredibly preppy, school yard chic vibe to them. I like to think of it as a twist on those Gossip Girl school uniforms.

I simply added a cute pair of black loafers to help blend into my socks, but my shoes have a really cute set of gold tassels on them that help to add to the preppy vibe.

How stunning is this houndstooth coat? I love the vibrant and bold pattern. Plus, the best part is that it is 50% off right now! It's the perfect statement coat for those colder days when you really want to stand out. As some of you may already know, I am not a boring coat person.

I live in Chicago where we have incredibly harsh winters. The streets become a sea of black and grey and navy coats; people trying to stay warm and looking/feeling awfully drab. Not me. I like my coats to make me pop out against the crowd. Sometimes, I can be pretty shy... so I like my clothes to help me be bolder!
