Easy DIY Projects from our Pop Up Shop with a Big Impact

As many of you may already know, I recently won a popup shop in downtown Chicago inside of the Block 37 mall. I was able to decorate the space anyway I liked and they gave me $2500 to decorate the space. While that seems like a lot of money, putting together an entire store with $2500 can be pretty challenging. I wanted to use a few, inexpensive DIY projects in the store that really created a big impact...essentially trying to get the most bang for my back when creating the store.

I wanted to share with you the three biggest projects...
our stripe wall, Instagram wall, and gold clothing racks.

Project 1: A Bold Striped Wall

I really wanted to create a big statement on one of the walls, but I didn't have a lot of money to hand a lot of things on the walls. I decided to create a simple graphic wall of stripes using nothing but paint and cheap painters tape. It took some time to get all of the stripes equal and straight, but it was well worth the impact.

See? Didn't it turn out great!??

Project 2: "Instagram Wall"

Since our shop, The Trendy Sparrow is popular on Instagram and a favorite of many bloggers...we wanted to create an "Instagram" wall featuring some of our favorite bloggers rocking our products. I made the wall a square shape to immolate the look of Instagram. We designed the "...do it for the gram" and had it printed at a local decal maker. Next, I printed out the 4x4 photos at Walgreens for 89 cents each! So cheap! I used double sided tape to adhere them to inexpensive 8x8 scrapbook paper, and used command strips to put them on the wall.

Project 3: Gold clothing racks

Ever since I knew I was going to get the popup space, I had my eye on these gorgeous clothing racks from PB Teen. Unfortunately, I couldn't really afford them on a tight budget. Instead, I was able to find these simple white clothing racks from IKEA for only $13 each and spray painted them a metallic gold. We were able to do 4 racks with 2 cans of $5 spray paint. All in, we spent about $70 total for all of the clothing racks. And we get customers who ask us where we bought them all the time!

Haha, look at my handsome helper! He thinks he's Banksy!

When you're opening a store, a popup shop, or even working on your house; some of the biggest and boldest DIY projects that add the most "wow" factor to your place can be accomplished on the smallest budget. It's all about how to make things look. We were able to make the space look bigger with the wall, highlight our bloggers, and make these IKEA clothing racks look incredibly high end all while staying on a very tight budget.

Which project is your favorite?!
